Last weekend (15-16 August 2009) we jumped into 5th leg of the MPOC (Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit). We had a grand total of one training session. But well, I don't think we're looking back. We didn't manage a podium finish (We got 7th place), but well, as far as we're concerned, it's all about the experience, and we had a great one.
We learned:
- Tissue paper is good.
- Bananas are good.
- We need more fitness training.
- We need a better battlecry. "Onz!" will do for now.
- Always test your markers before you go in, even if the ref says you don't have to. Having 2 markers down at the start of the game will make you want to cry or punch something.
- We need more fitness training.
- We need a cooler box. Malaysian tropical weather is brutal.
- Teamwork is essential. If you're not pulling your share, your team suffers.
- Make sure everyone preps enough cash to pay for the paint. Otherwise your accounting goes to hell.
- Did I mention we need more fitness training?
- Starting from the bottom is good. Everyone's using the same shitty house markers. If you're good, you know it's you, not your swanky gun (This pearl of wisdom came from one of the team. I liked it, therefore it's here.)
- Playing paintball is bad for your wallet. But we love it anyway.
Also, a quick word of thanks to team Bamboo Bullets for helping us with pods, and letting us use that magical cooler box filled with ice.
As of now, the team lineup consists of me (Amber Wong), Sandie Lee, Jimmy Ng, Aizat Feisal Hakim, and Edward de Souza.
We're still trying to figure out our options, training is expensive. We may not have unlimited training funds, or the swankiest equipment, but we've got heart, and we'll get there.
Should you suddenly be overcome with a fit of generosity and decide to support us in any way, we can be contacted at g5paintball@gmail.com.
Next stop, World Cup Asia 2009!
Cheers,
Amber

Hey Grant! Thanks lots for popping by! We're definitely gonna keep training. There's a waiting list for the WCA apparently, but we'll try our luck anyway. Terry will be training us, so we won't be headless chickens, at least.
ReplyDeleteRats, we didn't stay for finals after Xmenz was knocked out. You'll hit #1 next season. Or maybe even during WCA. Fingers crossed for you!
Thanks for the support!!
Cheers,
Amber
